The holiday season is a time when most
people are guilty of getting so wrapped up in presents, decorations,
parties and vacations, that they forget not only the meaning of the
season, but other important things going on in our world. We at the
Skip Mahaffey Morning Show have heard many stories of young men and
women overseas that felt, for a lack of a better word, forgotten over
the holiday season.
Back in 2001, Skip met Luke Dunaway, who
enlisted in the US Army right out of Land O’Lakes High School.
Luke told Skip stories about how lonely it can get being away from home.
And from this, Postcards From Home was born. That first year, the Skip
Show family created about 6000 postcards, letters, and homemade pictures
which were sent to military personnel.
Our Postcards from Home program has grown
to being very successful and it’s the most important thing we
do on the show each year. Last year, we sent tens of thousands to places
like Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar. We didn’t forget about folks
who were away from home stationed other places, like Germany, Japan
and even Alaska. We are eagerly anticipating another successful year
and are challenging our Skip Show family to help us exceed 25,000 for
this 2008 holiday season. If you have friends or family serving our
country, enter the APO addresses below so we can mail them letters for
Postcards from Home. Schools, churches and everyone else who’d
like to participate can get involved. It makes a GREAT service project.
